NAU Swimming Gears Up for Rematch Against Utah Tech Trailblazers

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Jan. 22, 2025) – The Northern Arizona swimming team will travel to St. George, Utah, this week for a rematch against Utah Tech from Jan. 24 to Jan. 25.

The two teams last went head-to-head in early December in a two-part dual meet. The 'Jacks claimed victory on the first day with a score of 58-47 and dominated the second day with a score of 143-108.

Cydnie Perkins led the way for the Lumberjacks as she claimed first place in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, secured second in the 200-yard individual medley and the 50-yard breaststroke, and anchored the NAU A team to victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Her performance earned her WAC Swimmer of the Week honors.

The NAU swimmers last competed on Jan. 3 where they fell 80.5-162.5 to Arizona.

The Trailblazers recently competed in a two-team dual meet on the road. On Jan. 17 at Washington State, sophomore Cera Mallory broke a new school record, becoming the first swimmer in Utah Tech program history to post a sub-17-minute time in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Overall, UTU fell 39-165 to WSU. The following day, Jan. 18, the Trailblazers faced fellow WAC rivals Idaho in Moscow, falling 51-186.

Northern Arizona leads the all-time series 5-0 dating back to 2020.

The opening day of events will begin at 5 p.m. Mountain Standard time on Friday, and Saturday's races will start at 11 a.m. MST.
