FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 31, 2025) – NAU Women's Tennis grabbed their first win of the season, defeating the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 7-0.
"It feels great to start a home streak with a win," said Bogusz.
Things started strong for the Lumberjacks in doubles, snatching the point to take a 1-0 lead. The doubles pair of
Patrycja Niewiadomska and
Laura Duhl were the first to finish, getting a 6-2 victory. Moments Later, the No. 1 duo of
Elen Jantacova and
Daryna Shoshyna confirmed that the Jacks would win the doubles point, winning by the scoreline, 6-3. However, doubles did not end there,
Andrea Noguera and
Ruslana Kovalenko rounded out doubles with a 6-3 win.
Jantacova was the first player to finish in singles with a straightforward win, picking up a bagel on the way to a 6-0, 6-2 victory. This win is Jantacova's first as a Lumberjack, with hopefully many more to come.
Duhl also brought in a dominant win where she got through her opponent quite smoothly with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Marking Duhl's first straight-set victory this season, with her prior win being a three-set, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, triumph over Cal Poly.
Shoshyna clinched the match for the lumberjacks beating Seha Yu by the scoreline of 6-2, 6-3. The win from Shoshyna confirmed that NAU would get their first win of the season.
Even though the Lumberjacks had won the match, they still finished out the last three singles matches that were still being played. No. 1 singles player Niewiadomska continued the Jacks' hopes of getting 7-5, 6-2 win. In the first set, Niewiadomska had only come away with one break.
Kovalenko had gotten the win in the third set tiebreak winning by the score of 6-3, 3-6, 11-9. This was Kovalenko's second match as a Lumberjack and first singles win of the season.
Noguera rounded out the day by confirming the Lumberjacks' 7-0 sweep over the Titans. Noguera snatched a straight set, 6-2, 6-4 win.
This win was the first for the Lumberjacks this season as they begun with a 2-1 record.
