Women’s Tennis Sweeps Mesa CC, 7-0 in Both Meetings

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 8, 2025) – Northern Arizona Women's Tennis improved to a 3-2 record following a doubleheader sweep of the Mesa CC Thunderbirds on Saturday, grabbing back-to-back 7-0 wins.
 
The Jacks started the day with doubles success, picking up wins on all three courts to secure the 1-0 lead. Patrycja Newiadomska and doubles partner Leontina Stojanovic swept MCC's pairing of Lynn Angulo and Sienna Buttafuoco in a quick 6-0 final, followed by Andrea Noguera and Ruslana Kovalenko grabbing the point for the Jacks with another 6-0 final at the No. 3 court. Elen Jantacova and Daryna Shoshyna closed out a 6-1 matchup at the No. 1 court to move on to singles play.
 
Singles play saw similar final scores as Stojanovic would earn NAU's first singles victory at the No. 6 position, finding back-to-back 6-0 sets to take down Jillian Harrison of MCC for the 2-0 lead. Shoshyna followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 match of her own at the No. 2 slot, taking down Thunderbird Mikaela Correa. Kovalenko picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 slot followed by Newiadomska with a No. 1 singles victory over Jackel Almada Lopez in 6-1, 6-0 fashion. Jantacova finished out the match at the No. 4 slot with a sweeping 6-0, 6-0 win over Kambri Stout.
 
Moving on to the afternoon matchup, the Lumberjacks swept doubles once again for the early 1-0 lead as Stojanovic and Kovalenko would finish out their contest in the No. 3 slot first with a 6-0 victory over Harrison and Stout, followed by Shoshyna and Jantacova's 6-1 win at the No. 1 court over Lopez and Correa. Newiadomska and Noguera finished doubles play with a 6-0 match over Angulo and Buttafuoco at court two.
 
Nearly all singles matches were finished at 6-0, 6-0 by the Lumberjacks with Shoshyna at No. 1, Newiadomska at No. 2, Noguera at No. 3, Jantacova at No. 4, Stojanovic at No. 5, and Kovalenko at the No. 6 court.
