FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 2, 2025) – NAU Women's Tennis came out victorious in their return to Flagstaff, taking down the New Mexico Lobos in a 4-1 finish.
The Lumberjacks won the doubles point by winning two out of the three doubles matches.
Elen Jantacova and
Daryna Shoshyna were the first to finish when they won a dominant 6-1 match on court one. The No. 3 doubles team of
Andrea Noguera and
Leontina Stojanovic clinched the doubles point for the Lumberjacks after they won, breaking their opponent in the last game of the set, 6-4. The final doubles match was unfinished but was in a tiebreak at 6-6 in the set.
NAU went into singles with a 1-0 lead and kept building upon it with
Laura Duhl, Stojanovic and Shoshyna.
Duhl was the first Lumberjack to finish in singles. Duhl grabbed a straight set, 6-3, 6-2 victory, beating Maria Sodre. This win for Duhl is her fourth this season with it being her second win in straight sets.
Stojanovic notched the third point of the day for the Lumberjacks as she also got a straight set win, 6-2, 6-3. Stojanovic was victorious at the No. 6 spot in the lineup as she is now 3-2 at that position this season.
Shoshyna clinched the match for NAU when she came away with a dominant straight set win 6-2, 6-2. She has moved her overall record to 7-1 and remained undefeated when she was at the No. 2 position.
The only singles loss of the day was from Noguera after she lost to Sarah O'Connor, 6-3, 6-0.
The team win moves the Lumberjacks record to 5-3 on the season. The next matchup for the Lumberjacks is a Big Sky Conference foe the Montana State Bobcats on March 7 in Flagstaff.
