PORTLAND, Ore. (March 23, 2025) – The NAU Women's Tennis team beat the Portland State Vikings, 6-1. The win moves the Lumberjacks winning streak to eight in a row.
NAU won the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Daryna Shoshyna and
Elen Jantacova got a doubles win on court one, 6-2. Portland State won a match on court two, but NAU clinched the doubles point with a victory from the No. 3 doubles team of
Andrea Noguera and
Ruslana Kovalenko, 7-6.
The Lumberjacks build upon their early 1-0 lead by winning five singles matches. The players that won in singles were Shoshyna, Jantacova, Kovalenko,
Patrycja Niewiadomska and
Laura Duhl.
Shoshyna got a win in three sets. She won the first set then dropped the second, making the match go the distance. Shoshyna prevailed winnning the third set and the match by the scoreline of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Shoshyna moved her singles record to 13-1 with the win.
Niewiadomska won in three sets at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. She lost the first set, then bounced back and won the next two, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. Niewiadomska is undefeated at the No. 2 position at 7-0.
Duhl and Jantacova came away with straight set victories. Duhl won her match, 6-3, 6-1. Jantacova won by the same score as Duhl. Jantacova is 10-3 in singles while Duhl is 8-2.
At the No. 6 spot, Kovalenko won her doubles match in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. She has now moved her record as a Lumberjack to 5-3.
NAU's overall team record is now 11-3 and remains undefeated in Big Sky play at 5-0.
The next matchup for the Lumberjacks they will take on the Montana Grizzlies in Flagstaff. The match is on Saturday, March 29.
