Women’s Tennis Hosting Montana With Chance of Clinching Regular Season Title Approaching

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 28, 2025) – Northern Arizona Women's Tennis (11-3, 5-0 Big Sky) is set to host the Montana Grizzlies (3-11, 1-3 Big Sky) on Saturday morning, with the match starting at 9 a.m. MST at the Tennis Complex. Entry is free to the public.

NAU will look to continue off its eight-match win streak, with sights set on a 6-0 conference record. The Jacks as a team boast a 66-16 overall singles record alongside an overall doubles record of 24-14. The chance to clinch at least a share of the Big Sky regular season title is on the line for the Jacks this weekend, with the opportunity presenting itself on Sunday based on league opponent matches. If NAU wins versus Montana on Saturday to become 6-0 in league play, they can clinch at least a share of the conference title if Sacramento State loses at Weber State on Friday and at Idaho State on Sunday to become 3-2 and if Idaho loses at ISU on Friday to become 3-2. NAU would finish at worst 6-2 and all other teams could only at best match 6-2 to end the year.

The Jacks are led by Daryna Shoshyna who leads the team at the top of the lineup with a dominant 13-1 record, going 6-1 at the No. 1 and an undefeated 7-0 at the No. 2. Patrycja Niewiadomska joins Shoshyna with an undefeated 7-0 record at the No. 2, while picking up a 4-2 record at the No. 1. Andrea Noguera holds an 11-2 overall singles record, primarily playing at the No. 4.

On the doubles courts, Shoshyna and partner Elen Jantacova lead the team with a 9-4 record, boasting a 7-3 record at the No. 1 and a 2-1 record at the No. 2. Noguera and Ruslana Kovalenko hold a 5-3 record as a duo at the No. 3.

The Grizzles are looking to snap a five-match losing streak, with Montana's last victory coming on March 1 over Seattle in a 4-3 final. The team has gone 27-47 in singles matches this season, and 18-24 in doubles play. Doubles duo of Grace Haugen and Rosie Sterk lead the team in doubles play with a 9-4 record at the No. 1 position. Haugen also leads the team in singles play with an 8-3 record.
