Washburn, Burns Earn Big Sky Athlete of the Week Honors After George Kyte Classic

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 2, 2025) – The Big Sky Conference has announced its weekly cross country honors, with Northern Arizona's Ford Washburn and Hayley Burns earning recognition after standout performances at the George Kyte Classic.

Burns collected Big Sky Women's Athlete of the Week after a strong fourth-place overall finish, trailing only a trio of professional runners. Her effort paced NAU's 10th-ranked squad to a flawless 15-point victory in their season opener.

"Opening up at Buffalo Park was super fun and such a great team race," Burns said. "I'm really excited for the season ahead!"

On the men's side, Washburn was named Co-Men's Athlete of the Week alongside Weber State's top performer. The sophomore opened his season in dominant fashion, winning the NCAA Division I section of the men's race at Buffalo Park while leading the Lumberjacks to a perfect 15-point victory.

"We're super stoked to be able to pick up a win for our first meet of the season at home," Washburn said. "We can't wait to go race some more teams in Missouri next month!"

The honors mark an early statement for both Lumberjack standouts as they begin the 2025 campaign with momentum on their home course.
