Lumberjacks Open Fall Season at the ITA All-American Championships and Lumberjack Classic

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 21, 2025) – All six NAU women's tennis players were in action over the weekend to begin the Fall 2025 campaign. Senior Patrycja Niewiadomska was in Cary, North Carolina competing at the ITA All-American Championships while the rest of the team remained in Flagstaff for the Lumberjack Classic, hosting UNLV and Mesa Community College.

Niewiadomska played two matches in Cary. In her first match on Sept. 20, she faced University of California, Berkeley freshman Laura Cilekova. Niewiadomska fell in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

On Sept. 21, Niewiadomska played her second match in the consolation bracket, going up against sophomore Amber Yin from Columbia University. Niewiadomska battled in the first set, coming up short 7-5 and then fell in the second set 6-3. 

Five NAU players played in the Lumberjack Classic, sophomore Elen Jantacova, freshman Madelynn Ludwig, junior Andrea Noguera, junior Natalie Rainke and sophomore Leontina Stojanovic

The Lumberjacks claimed two doubles matches on Sept. 20. Stojanovic and Ludwig beat UNLV pair of freshmen Eszter Kis-Czako and Adi Bitton, 7-5. Noguera and Stojanovic delivered the second win as they took down Mesa freshman Lucia Madrid-Schleicher and Karla Ornelas, 6-1. 

NAU also picked up two doubles wins today, with Stojanovic and Jantacova beating Kis-Czako and Bitton, 6-2. Stojanovic got her fourth doubles win of the Lumberjack Classic with Rainke when they bageled Madrid-Schleicher and Ornelas.

In singles, three 'Jacks got wins on Sept. 20. Noguera beat Kis-Czako in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, and Jantacova came away with a straight set win as well by beating UNLV junior Hudson Hawkins, 6-3, 6-2. Ludwig dominated her match as she picked up a bagel and a breadstick, besting Madrid-Schleicher, 6-1, 6-0. Rainke fought hard, but fell, 6-2, 6-2 to UNLV sophomore Kaho Oyama.

On Sept. 21, NAU posted a 2-2 record in singles. Stojanovic dominated her match winning 6-0, 6-0, over Ornelas. Jantacova battled in her match against Bitton, winning the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6(4) before taking the second set comfortably, 6-2. Ludwig fell to Hawkins in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. 

Noguera was in a tight battle with Oyama in the final match of the weekend. Oyama won the first set by just one break at the end of the set to take it by the score of 7-5. Noguera had her serve broken early in the second set but was able to break back and force a tiebreak. She fell two points short of winning the tiebreak as Oyaba won the set 7-6(8).

The NAU women's tennis team will be back in action on Oct. 7 as they will travel to Provo, Utah to take part in the ITA Mountain Regionals.
