CLEVELAND, Ohio (January 6, 2026) – Northern Arizona linebackers
Quinlan Popham and
Brandon Wong were among 57 student-athletes named to the 28th Annual Academic All-Star Team by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) on Tuesday.
Football players from FCS institutions were eligible for the award and were required to have a minimum graduate point average of 3.20 and have been a starter or key player. They also must have reached their second year of athletics and academic standing at their current institution and completed a minimum of one full academic year, while participated in at least 50 percent of games.
The honor is the first for Popham and Wong, who were two of eight Big Sky Conference student-athletes recognized. NAU and Montana State were the only two Big Sky institutions with a pair of recipients.
Popham and Wong are the first two Lumberjacks on the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team since Coleman Owen in 2023.
Popham is set to graduate this spring with his master's degree in business analytics. Currently holding a 4.00 GPA in his master's program, Popham graduated last spring with his bachelor's degree in business administration and finance with a perfect 4.00 undergraduate GPA.
Popham, a member of NAU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, was voted one of five team captains for the 2025 season. Originally starting his career as a walk-on, Popham finished his final season with 35 tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss, 0.5 sacks and two pass breakups. After suffering a serious arm injury against Montana State on Oct. 4, Popham returned to the 'Jacks after missing only four games to play in his Senior Day.
Wong holds a 3.86 GPA and will graduate this spring with his bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Wong plans on attending physical therapy school upon graduation.
Wong earned All-Big Sky Second Team honors and returned to the field earlier than expected this season following two offseason surgeries. Wong made his season debut against UIW on Sept. 20 and proceeded to start at middle linebacker upon his return. He concluded his final collegiate season third on the team with 64 tackles and led the team with 10.5 tackles-for-loss, which ranked him sixth in the Big Sky.
The FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team was selected by a review committee consisting of five FCS athletics directors.
