FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 7, 2025) – Behind a fourth-quarter 19-0 run and double-doubles from
Madison Watts and
Naomi White, the Northern Arizona women's basketball team ran away with a 73-65 win over Weber State on Saturday afternoon on Findlay Toyota Court inside the Walkup Skydome.
Northern Arizona snaps a five-game skid and improves to 8-17 and 4-8 in Big Sky Conference action, while Weber State moves to 7-18 and 1-11 in league games. The contest included eight ties and 20 lead changes, the most in a game this season for both squads.
The timely 19-0 scoring run is NAU's largest of the season, beating its previous longest of 15-0 against Creighton on November 28. Watts' 15-point, 11-rebound performance marks her second straight game with a double-double, while White grabs hers by way of 31 points and 10 rebounds for her third of the season, as well as the redshirt freshman's third 30-plus point game on the year. It is also the first time this season two Astrojacks have secured a double-double in one game, and the first time since February 15, 2025 that two NAU players collected 10-plus rebounds in a game. Off the bench,
Layla Davis produced one of her better outings this season in 25 minutes, going for 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, five rebounds, and two assists.
The Astrojacks outrebounded the Wildcats, 45-38, and pushed the pace for 17 fast-break points while limiting Weber State to just five. 12 of the 20 lead changes occurred in the first half, as neither team built a lead larger than four in the first 20 minutes. The Wildcats used a strong third period to take a six-point lead into the final quarter, thanks to a 7-0 run in the frame.
NAU entered today's game with a 1-14 record when trailing at the start of the fourth quarter and found itself down 58-51 with just over eight minutes to play. A pair of
Kayla Williams foul shots sparked the 19-0 run, while NAU clamped down defensively to force 10 straight misses from the Wildcats. A White steal and free-throws with just under a minute to go then capped the scoring avalanche, sealing the win for the Astrojacks.
NAU hits the road next week for a pair of road games, beginning at Portland State on Thursday, Feb. 12. Tipoff with the Vikings is scheduled for 8 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+
