Lumberjacks Clinch No. 2 seed, Defeat the Vandals 6-1 on Senior Day

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 11, 2026) - The Northern Arizona women's tennis team handled the Idaho Vandals 6-1 to secure the No. 2 seed in the Big Sky Tournament and round out conference play with a 6-2 record. The win also put NAU back above .500 overall with a 7-6 record.

With the No. 2 seed, The Lumberjacks will receive a bye into the semifinals of the Big Sky Tennis Championships for the second year in a row.

The Lumberjacks started the day by taking the doubles point after wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Natalie Rainke and Elen Jantacova ran through their match in doubles winning 6-2. Patryja Niewiadomsaka and Andrea Nogurea followed it up with a tight 6-4 victory to secure the doubles point.

The Vandals were the first to score a point in singles action, evening up the score 1-1. That tie was short lived with Leontina Stojanovic getting the straight-set win to put NAU ahead, 2-1. 

Niewiadomska then grabbed her 10th singles win of the season and her seventh in Big Sky play, playing two very similar sets to win 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 position over Chenyue Xu. The victory put the senior at 50 wins in her career as a Lumberjack.

Jantacova clinched the overall victory for the Lumberjacks with a win at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-4. Moments later, Nogurea finished her match with another straight-set victory to put NAU up, 5-1. The win for Nogurea marked her fifth singles victory of the last six matches she has played. 

Rainke notched the final point of the day in a battle that ended in a third-set 10-point tiebreak. After losing the second set tiebreak, Rainke put on a show to win the third-set tiebreak 10-5. 

The Lumberjacks have one more regular season match as they will head to La Jolla, California for a matchup against the UC San Diego Tritons on Saturday, April 18. First serve is at 10 a.m. MST and can be followed on live stats.
