OGDEN, Utah - After clocking some of the fastest mile times in the country at the University of Washington Invitational on Saturday, Northern Arizona University's
Andy Trouard and
Paige Gilchrist swept the Big Sky's Men's and Women's Track Athlete of the Week awards, per the conference's release Tuesday.
Trouard broke sub-four minutes in the men's mile with a 3:58.01 performance, the second-fastest time ran indoors in NAU history. The redshirt senior easily set a new personal best with the mark as he finished second overall in the event and as the top collegiate finisher. At the time of running, the time sat as the third best in the nation and after this weekend's results went final, it is now the fourth best time in the country. It was also the second-fastest time ran in conference history in the event.
Trouard's time could stand as one that qualifies him for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The top 16 declared athletes in each event make the national meet so he could have punched his ticket with his performance over the weekend.
Gilchrist was another NAU standout at the invite as she finished fourth overall in the women's mile with a 4:32.71 showing. The mark set a new personal record for the redshirt senior and was the third-fastest time ever ran in NAU history. As of running, her time sat in the top 15 of the country and after this weekend's results, comes in as the 17th best in the nation. It was also the sixth-fastest time in the women's mile in Big Sky history.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action when they host the Mountain T's Invitational on Friday, Feb. 2 through Saturday, Feb. 3 at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff.
