FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (May 28, 2026) – The Northern Arizona women opened competition at the NCAA West First Round on Thursday, highlighted by a quarterfinal berth from Hayley Burns in the 1,500 meters and a personal-best performance from Addie Engel in the 10,000 meters.
Burns advanced to Saturday's NCAA West quarterfinal after finishing second in Heat 3 of the women's 1,500m first round. The junior crossed the line in 4:21.08, using a strong closing lap of approximately 1:00.5 to secure an automatic qualifying position.
Later in the evening, Engel delivered one of the top performances of her career in the women's 10,000m. The sophomore placed 16th overall in 33:09.03, recording a personal best and moving to No. 6 on NAU's all-time performance list.
Northern Arizona also opened the meet in the women's hammer throw, where Soraya Horn-Kemp recorded a mark of 52.59 meters (172-6) to place 40th overall.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday with Burns competing in the women's 1,500m quarterfinal as she looks to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships in Eugene.

Christian Mutengela opens the day in the men's high jump, while Rheinhardt Harrison, Clay Shively, and Tor Hotung-Davidsen return for the men's 1,500m quarterfinals after advancing through the first round.
Colin Sahlman races in the men's 800m quarterfinal, Randy Espinoza competes in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, Josiah Johnson takes on the men's 400m hurdles, and Cael Grotenhuis closes out the night in the men's 5,000m.
