FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 27, 2018) – The Northern Arizona University women's golf team will be attending its last competition of the fall at the 2018 Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Oct. 30
th-31
st, at the Kapolei Golf Club in Kapolei, Hawai'i.
The Invitational will consist of three separate rounds of play each being made up of 18-holes. The Kapolei Golf Club's course has a yardage of 6,385 and a par of 72. The event will tee off at 11 a.m. (MST) on both days with a shotgun start.
Big Sky Conference opponent Sacramento State will be making its way to Hawai'i for the Invitational as well.
12 teams in total will be attending the event. These teams will include host Hawai'i, BYU, Florida International, GCU, Hawai'i Pacific, UH-Hilo, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Sam Houston State and UTRGV.
NAU is coming off of a 12
th place team finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev., with the top individual golfer being freshman
Aleksandra Chekalina (T-31
st, +2, 218).
"I've been very impressed with how our freshmen have come in and competed from the start of the semester," said head women's golf coach
Brad Bedortha. "They are wonderful young ladies and have a desire to make our program better."
Ashley Croft and
Elle Kocourkova are also expected to make appearances. Both freshman have stepped up in a big way this year with Chekalina making their presence felt in the Big Sky Conference. During the final round of the last tournament Kocourkova shot for two-under par for a total tally of 70.
"I am excited for the final fall tournament," added Bedortha. "We are going to have a great trip and I am looking forward to seeing our team compete again."
