FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Dec. 6, 2018) – Northern Arizona graduating senior wide receiver
Emmanuel Butler has been selected to play in the 2019 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which is scheduled to be played on Saturday, January 19 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
Butler closed out his career at NAU as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (3,217) and touchdown receptions (33). He ranks third among the Lumberjacks' career leaders in receptions with 187 and owns the top single-season marks in NAU annals in receiving yards (1,208) and touchdowns (16).
The 6'4" Butler also tallied a total of 13 games with over 100 receiving yards in his career at NAU and was a three-time All-Big Sky Conference selection. He was honored as a first-team All-America choice in 2015.
Founded in 2012, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl gives prospective players the best opportunity to showcase their talents to potential employers and fans. Nearly 200 scouts, player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams are expected be in attendance to watch live practices, conduct player interviews and review tape.
The head coaches for the 2019 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will include former NFL bosses Chuck Pagano (American Team) and Mike Tice (National Team). The defensive coordinator for the American squad is Ed Reed, who enjoyed exceptional collegiate and professional playing careers with the University of Miami and Baltimore Ravens.
Leading the American Team offense will be Ted Tollner, who served as an NFL assistant for 15 seasons and worked with NFL quarterbacks Jared Goff and Carson Wentz leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft.
The National Team's offense will be directed by former NFL quarterback Gus Frerotte, while the defense will be guided by former All-Pro linebacker Bryan Cox.
Other coaches include former NFL standouts Clinton Portis, Darrell Green, Andre Johnson, Plaxico Burress and Jeff Blake.
A total of 112 collegiate players competed in the game in 2018, representing 84 colleges and universities. Overall, 42 of those players received an invitation to the 2018 NFL Combine and 19 were selected in the 2018 NFL Draft.
