NAU Men’s Tennis Falls to UNLV 5-2

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Northern Arizona men's tennis team fell to the University of Nevada – Las Vegas this morning 5-2 in its sole match of the week.
 
This past weekend, the Lumberjacks competed against North Dakota and Northern Colorado ending with two 7-0 shutouts to advance to 4-1 in the Big Sky and start off their home record 2-0.
 
The Lumberjacks and Rebels faced off in Las Vegas starting off with three hard-fought matches in doubles. UNLV ended up on top with two 7-6 wins to clinch the doubles point, while senior Felix Schumann and junior Ruben Montano paired to win at the No. 3 position with the same score.
 
The Rebels remained in the lead in singles, picking up the first two wins at the No. 6 and No. 3 positions before the 'Jacks were able to get on the board.
 
Junior Lucas Taylor was the first, winning his match 6-4, 6-0 over UNLV's Courtney Lock.
 
UNLV continued to dominate winning another two and clinching the win at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions.
 
Junior Montano garnered the final point with a 6-7, 6-4, 1-0(10-8) win in tiebreak, as the only Lumberjack to go undefeated against the Rebels.
 
Now, Northern Arizona is 6-9 overall and remain 4-1 in conference action with a little over a week until its next two competitions against Idaho State March 31 and Weber State April 1. Both matches are set for 10 a.m. start times.
