Taylor Notches Big Sky Athlete of the Week Honor

OGDEN, Utah — Junior Lucas Taylor was named Big Sky men's tennis Athlete of the Week by the conference office March 21 after recording a 3-0 singles record and 2-1 doubles record against Marquette, North Dakota and Northern Colorado this weekend.

"I'm very proud of Lucas, he's been playing great tennis," Director of Tennis Ki Kroll said. "He really steps up on match days."

His first competition of the week was against Big East opponent Marquette Thursday, March 15 in which Taylor, fell in doubles before bouncing back to win 6-4, 6-4 in singles. Taylor's singles win helped the 'Jacks close the Golden Eagles lead to 3-2 before Marquette clinched the win.

Taylor's next two matches were a part of Northern Arizona's home-opening 2-0 shutout weekend against North Dakota and Northern Colorado.

Against the UND Fighting Hawks, Taylor clinched the doubles point with senior Adi Zilberstein 6-1, before finishing first in singles 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.

Against the UNC Bears, the junior paired with Zilberstein again to win 7-6(5) before helping the 'Jacks clinch the win with a 6-2, 6-3 performance.

This is Taylor's first AOTW honor of the season and third in his career.

Taylor and the 'Jacks went 2-1 during their three-match week, increasing to 6-8 overall and 4-1 in Big Sky action.
