NAU Men’s Tennis to Travel to Idaho State and Weber State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Northern Arizona men's tennis team is heading into two of its final three road matches of the season this weekend against Idaho State and Weber State.

The Lumberjacks are coming off a 5-2 loss to UNLV and looking to get back to Big Sky action.

Northern Arizona is currently 6-9 overall and 4-1 in conference with just five matches remaining in the regular season after this weekend's competitions.

Junior Lucas Taylor is currently leading the 'Jacks with nine overall singles wins, while junior Tim Handel leads in conference wins with a 5-0 singles record. Both contribute to 40 overall wins, 25 in the Big Sky in singles for Northern Arizona.

In doubles, senior Felix Schumann leads with a 6-8 overall record and 4-0 Big Sky record. The senior is trailed by junior Ruben Montano who also has six overall doubles wins and four conference wins.

The 'Jacks will first compete against the Bengals Saturday, March 31 before traveling to Utah to face the Wildcats Sunday, April 1. Both matches are set for 10 a.m. start times. Following this weekend, Northern Arizona will have just five more matches, four at home, before the Big Sky Conference tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.

Idaho State is coming off of a four-match week against Weber State, North Dakota, Northern Colorado and Metropolitan State University. The Bengals will host both Northern Arizona and Montana this weekend. The last time Northern Arizona and Idaho State competed was in Flagstaff last season when the 'Jacks came away with 7-0 shutout. The seven-man roster is led by Mark Rodel, who is in his third season with the Bengals.

Weber State is 8-9 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky coming off of a 4-3 win over Portland State. The Wildcats will host the Montana Grizzlies Thursday, before welcoming the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks Sunday. The Wildcats will end the season at home in one final match against Sacramento State. Weber State traveled to Flagstaff last March falling to Northern Arizona in a close 4-3 loss. The seven-man roster is led by Director of Tennis Brad Ferreiera, who is in his third year with the title, but sixth season overall with the Wildcats.

Coming Up
Northern Arizona will host Montana and Montana State for its second weekend at home. The Lumberjacks will first compete against the Montana Grizzlies Friday, April 6 at 1 p.m. and then the Montana State Bobcats Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m. The 'Jacks will play both matches at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex in Flagstaff, Ariz.
