MOSCOW, Idaho — The Northern Arizona men's tennis team fell to Idaho Friday afternoon in a close 4-3 match up.
The Lumberjacks nearly came back with the score tied at 3-3 before Idaho clinched the final court and win. The 'Jacks are now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the Big Sky.
"The guys fought hard throughout the match," Director of Tennis
Ki Kroll said. "We started to make a comeback."
The Idaho Vandals came out strong against the 'Jacks taking both courts in doubles to go up 1-0. The Vandals continued their run winning the next two points at the No. 5 and No. 4 positions.
With the score 3-0, Northern Arizona started a daring comeback.
Junior
Tim Handel picked up the first win for the Lumberjacks 7-6(5), 6-4 then junior
Lucas Taylor followed suit winning on his court 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
The tying point was won by senior
Sebastian Eguez who overcame Vandals' junior Lucas Coutinho 7-5, 7-6(3) at the No. 6 position.
Northern Arizona and Idaho went head to head at the No. 5 position for the win where the Vandals just edged past the Lumberjacks 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
The Lumberjacks will compete against another Big Sky Conference opponent in Eastern Washington tomorrow, March 10. The match is set for 10 a.m. (11 a.m. MST) in Cheney, Wash.
