Five Lumberjacks Earn WGCA All-American Scholar Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Northern Arizona University had five golfers in Carly Akine, Sofia Anokhina, Sierra Bezdicek, Lexi Keene and Loren Skibba earn All-American Scholar honors by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), per the association's release on Tuesday.

A total of 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with the prestigious award. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics as the minimum cumulative GPA required is a 3.50.

All five NAU athletes who earned the WGCA award were also named selections to the Spring Big Sky All-Academic team.

As a unit the Lumberjacks finished fourth overall at the 2018 Big Sky Championships this spring. The team will be stocked with new faces for the 2018-19 season after the program lost three to graduation and one to transfer.

Keene, Skibba and Emma Reyes are the lone returners who will look to lead NAU next year.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
