FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (August 16, 2018) – With the first day of the fall semester just 11 days away, head women's tennis coach
Maciej Bogusz announced the additions of
Emilie Haakansson and
Adrianna Sosnowska to the Lumberjacks' 2018-19 roster.
"They are going to bring more depth to the team," Bogusz said. "When we were recruiting them, we focused a lot on their character. We are bringing good people into the team who will fit the team culture – something we started building last year."
Haakansson and Sosnowska, both of whom will enter as true freshmen, will join an NAU roster who brings back their top six players from last year's third consecutive Big Sky regular season championship team.
Haakansson, from Hellerup, Denmark, is a two-time Danish Doubles Senior champion and won the Danish Junior Championship in doubles several times. She is a three-time representative of her home country at the European Championship.
Also an accomplished singles player – having won the Danish U14 Singles Championship – Haakansson helped her club team win the Danish Junior Championship twice. In the Senior Division, her club team took silver and bronze.
Sosnowksa comes to NAU from Lodz, Poland where she captured three medals at the Polish Championships U18 last year. In mixed doubles, Sosnowska placed first in addition to second in doubles and third in singles.
Sosnowska also has earned numerous top three finishes at various tournaments over the last four years including the National Youth Olympic Games, Polish Indoor Championships and Tennis Europe Radom Cup.
"Both of these players have great styles to play at high altitude with fast courts, hard courts that we have here in our conference," Bogusz said. "They're going to enjoy playing in our conference and they fit the coaching philosophy we have."
