NAU Football Announces Non-Conference Series with Dixie State

Lumberjacks and Trailblazers to play six games beginning in 2023

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 16, 2019) – The Northern Arizona football program will play a six-game non-conference football series with Dixie State University beginning in the 2023 season, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Lumberjacks and Trailblazers will begin play during the 2023 season at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff.  The teams will also face off in 2024 (at Dixie State), 2025 (at NAU), 2026 (at Dixie State), 2027 (at NAU) and 2028 (at Dixie State).

"We are excited to add this series with Dixie State to our future football schedules," NAU Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Marlow said.  "These games will give our fans additional opportunities to make a trip to see the Lumberjacks on the road as well as develop a new rivalry with a regional opponent."

Dixie State, which is located just over 250 miles from the NAU campus in St. George, Utah, is making the jump to NCAA Division I beginning in June 2020 as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

"We are very excited to establish a rivalry with the Lumberjacks and look forward to the games," Dixie State   Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Jason Boothe said.  "NAU has a great tradition and a strong program so it will be excellent competition for us as we build our program up.  Personally, as a proud graduate of NAU, the games will be even that much more special."

NAU has played Dixie State one previous time in the program's history, handing the Trailblazers a 66-14 defeat on Sept. 16, 2006 in Flagstaff.
