NAU’s Bernie Andre Honored as Big Sky Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Sophomore forward becomes first Lumberjack to win conference weekly honor since 2015

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 26, 2019) – Northern Arizona University sophomore Bernie Andre has been honored as the Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Ready Nutrition Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 25, Big Sky officials announced on Tuesday.

Andre averaged 16.0 points and 14.5 rebounds in two games last week and registered a pair of double-doubles against Idaho and Eastern Washington.  He shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from the field over the two games and was a perfect 5-of-5 from charity stripe.

The North Miami Beach, Fla., native is the first Lumberjack to be honored by the conference since Kris Yanku on Feb. 23, 2015 – a span of over four years.

Andre began the week by dropping in a career-best 22 and 13 rebounds on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor in a 75-54 over Idaho on Thursday night.  The win allowed NAU to sweep season series from a Big Sky for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign.

Andre followed up with 10 points and a career-best 16 rebounds in 31 minutes against Eastern Washington on Saturday.

The 6-7 forward has scored in double figures in 14 of the last 16 games for the Lumberjacks and has recorded seven double-doubles on the year to rank third in the Big Sky.

The Lumberjacks return to action with the start of a three-game road trip on Saturday, March 2 at Montana State in a 7 p.m. MST tip.
