Northern Arizona Men’s Tennis Looks to Keep Winning Streak Alive Against Northern Colorado and Denver

The Lumberjacks are 3-0 in the Big Sky

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 13, 2019) – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team will be back on the road to face the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Denver on March 16 and 17. The Lumberjacks will be entering the matchups with a record of 6-6 on the season and a record of 3-0 in the conference.  With the 3-0 record in the Big Sky, NAU is currently in first place in the conference.

"We are looking forward to keeping the momentum we have built over the last couple of weeks and can't wait for the opportunities to compete again," NAU head coach Maciej Bogusz said.

The Lumberjacks are coming off a weekend where they went 2-0 with wins over Big Sky foes Montana and Montana State.  Northern Arizona took down Montana by a score of 7-0 on March 9 and Montana State by a score of 5-2 on March 10. In the two matchups, the 'Jacks went 4-0 in doubles and 10-2 in singles.

In the matches, Tim Handel, Facundo Tumosa, Ruben Montano and Tom Fisher all went 2-0 in singles on the weekend, while Lucas Taylor and Chris Steele went 1-1.  Handel has been the most consistent 'Jack on the season as he is 9-1, which currently leads the Big Sky in wins.

The top doubles pair on the weekend was Steele and Fisher who went 2-0 on the weekend, while the other pairs of Handel and Montano and Taylor and Tumosa both went 1-0.  On the season all three duos have six wins on the season.

Matchups
The University of Northern Colorado will be entering the match on March 16 with a record of 5-8 on the season, and a 1-5 record in Big Sky play.  UNC is coming into the match with a four-match losing streak, with its most recent loss coming to Eastern Washington by a score of 2-5.

In singles, the Bears No. 1 singles player is Kyle Pease who currently has a record of 5-8 on the season.  Although playing mostly the No. 5 singles, Alex Exsted leads UNC in wins with 6.

In doubles, Northern Colorado is a combined 15-22 on the season, with its No. 1 pair being Pease and Tommy Smalley having a record of 5-7.

The University of Denver is entering the weekend with a record of 6-6 on the season, while currently on a one-match losing streak.

In singles, Denver has played both Mattia Ros and Matt Summers at its No.1 singles. The two have a combined record of 6-5 on the season at the No. 1 spot.  The Pioneer with the most wins in singles this season is Ignatius Castelino with nine and Ros with eight.

In doubles, Denver is 18-10 on the season with its No. 1 pair of James Davis and Summers having a record of 7-2 on the season.
