FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 13, 2019) - Northern Arizona University's track & field program will be opening the 2019 outdoor season on March 15th and 16th at the Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by Arizona State University at the Joe Selleh Track at Sun Angel Stadium.
Friday will consist of a small program of track and field events starting with men's discuss competition at 11:30 A.M. (MST); the running events will begin at 6:30 P.M. (MST) with the women's 100m hurdles.
Saturday will kick things off at 11:00 A.M. (MST) with the women's discus competition. Running events will begin at 2:30 P.M. with the women's 4x800m relay.
Some of the top programs in the region will compete at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. Texas A&M, UCLA and Iowa are among some of the teams that will be joining the 'Jacks and Sun Devils. Updated heat sheets and other participating teams will be posted on the ASU track & field page of www.thesundevils.com when available.
The Lumberjack men won the Big Sky Conference title during the 2019 indoor season and also sent three male long distance runners to NCAA Indoor Nationals. Blaise Ferro was honored as the 2019 Big Sky Indoor Men's Most Valuable Athlete. Ferro won the men's 3000m race at conference championships. Beamish is fresh off of having earned the national championship in the men's mile run.
On the women's side the 'Jacks placed third at indoor conference championships. The women's DMR placed first at conference. Hannah Behunin was crowned as the women's mile run champion and Maggie Carruth also took home a gold medal at conference for her performance in the women's 800m run. Jada Jackson also took home some individual hardware after placing second in the women's 60m dash.
The Baldy Castillo Invitational will give the 'Jacks a chance to get a feel for where they stand as they enter the 2019 outdoor season.
