FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 26, 2019) – The Northern Arizona University football program held its annual Pro Day at the J. Lawrence Skydome on Tuesday morning which saw a total of five recent Lumberjack standouts perform drills for the observing eyes of a total of 10 scouts from the National Football League (NFL) and Canadian Football League (CFL).
Among the NAU players who participated were safeties
Wes Sutton and
Kam'ron Johnson, along with running back
Cory Young and linebackers
Markquise Simmons and
Byron Evans.
Scouts from the following NFL teams attended the workout including the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions. In addition, the Toronto Argonauts from the CFL were also in attendance.
Highlights from the drills included Johnson posting a 36.5 measurement in the vertical jump – which would have tied for the sixth-best among safeties at last month's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Cory Young pumped out a total of 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press – which also would rank among NFL Combine leaders at the running back position tying for 10
th best.
Pro Day drills will included the vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, 40-yard dash, 40- and 60-yard shuttle run, cone drill and individual workouts.
The 2019 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25-27 in Nashville, Tennessee and will be televised on the ESPN Family of Networks, the NFL Network and ABC.
Overall, NAU has had a total of 37 players drafted in program history, including nine players selected within the first five rounds.
The Lumberjacks have seen 84 former players compete at the professional level (NFL, CFL, AFL, NFL Europe).
