RESULTS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 8, 2019) - The Northern Arizona University track & field program had three male distance runners participate in the first day of the 2019 NCAA Indoor National Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Geordie Beamish ran in the preliminary round of the Men's Mile Run and was able to qualify for tomorrow's Finals. He would place third in his heat with a time of 4:06.94. Beamish had a late charge to be able to position himself in the top three finishers in the entire field during the last lap of the race. He will be joined by ten other student-athletes in the Finals.
"Being able to advance to the Finals in any event at Nationals is incredibly stressful," said director of cross country and track & field Michael Smith. "Geordie managed the pressure and demonstrated the tactics necessary to put himself in that Final tomorrow."
Beamish was accompanied by teammates Tyler Day and Luis Grijalva; they both competed in the Men's 5000m Run Finals. Day placed 13th with a time of 13:55.40. Grijalva crossed the finish line in 14th-place at 14:10.44.
"First and foremost we are so proud of Luis and Tyler," added Smith. "For NAU to have two student-athletes represent us in the 5000m Run is huge. I think they left this meet frustrated but they are both relentless champions and a big part of what we are all about here. Tyler has given us so much and this was Luis's first year running indoor. They both have earned some much needed rest."
The final day of the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will begin tomorrow at 10:45 A.M. (MST). Beamish will lace up one last time this indoor season in Men's Mile Run Final which is scheduled to take place at 3:20 P.M. (MST).
