Busy Weekend Sees 'Jacks Competing in Two Separate Meets in Southern California

NAU track & field heads to Southern California for the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Pacific Coast Invitational and Beach Invitational

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 17, 2019) -
 The Northern Arizona University outdoor track & field team will be heading to Southern California this weekend for two separate meets. The first meet will take the form of the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., which will see the 'Jacks competing on April 18th and 19th. NAU will also be in Long Beach, Calif., for the Beach Invitational, which will be held on April 19th and 20th hosted by Long Beach State University. 

BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
NAU's first events at the Bryan Clay Invitational will be the Men's 3000m Steeplechase and Women's 5000m Run. The Men's Steeplechase is set for a 3:00 P.M. (MST). On Friday at Bryan Clay the 'Jacks will compete in events ranging from the sprints, jumps and distance disciplines.

The Bryan Clay Invitational will be held at the Cougar Athletic Stadium on APU's East Campus The Invitational will be live streamed by FloTrack.

Notable events featuring Northern Arizona at Bryan Clay include Christopher Grant in the Men's 100m Dash and Maggie Carruth in the Women's 800m Run. Both student-athletes currently sit at the top spot in the Big Sky Conference in their respective events. Grant's best performance came from a 10.47 race at the Texas Relays, while Carruth's top time was earned during NAU's last meet at the 40th Sun Angel Classic hosted by Arizona State University. Kyle Havriliak also has the top Men's 3000m Steeplechase time in the conference at 9:03.84 set at this season's Stanford Invite.

BEACH INVITATIONAL
The Beach Invitational will be held at the Jack Rose Track. Now in its 25th year, the Invite will feature 2,356 different athletes representing 210 different institutions including some of the best track and field athletes in the world.

The Beach Invitational will see the Lumberjacks open up the 19th with the Men's Hammer and Women's Javelin competitions. Day one of the Beach Invite will feature 10 Lumberjacks in six throwing events. The second day of the Beach Invite looks to have the Lumberjacks represented in the Men's and Women's 4x100 Relay races, as well as the 100m and 110m Hurdles alongside the throws squads events. 

Parker Joens currently has the second best mark in the Men's Shot Put in the Big Sky Conference. Joens mark of 17.77m was also set at this year's Sun Angel Classic. Jake Arnold will also see some action in the Men's Shot Put on Friday; Arnold has the fifth-best mark in the conference at 16.71m set at the 2019 Baldy Castillo Invite.

Northern Arizona currently has three of the top-10 times in the Big Sky Conference in the Women's 400m Dash. Jasmine Malone (2nd, 55.10), Carruth (8th, 56.87) and Miracle Onyemaobi (57.05) are currently tied with Sacramento State for the most athletes in the top-10 in that event. Malone and Onyemaobi will be participating in the Women's 400m Dash at the Beach Invite.
