Northern Arizona Breaks Record for the Longest Winning Streak in Program History with Win Over Weber State

NAU moves to 8-0 in the Big Sky

Box Score FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 6, 2019) – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team picked up its record-breaking 11th win in a row this season as they took down Weber State 6-1. The streak began on March 2, when the Lumberjacks were able to take down Southern Utah 5-2.

"I thought we had another solid team performance today, we bent on a few occasions but never broke," NAU head coach Maciej Bogusz said.  "We need to recover and be ready for Eastern Washington tomorrow morning."

The win on the day moves NAU to a record of 14-6 on the season and 8-0 in the Big Sky. The 'Jacks are currently in first place in the conference and have locked up a spot in the Big Sky Conference tournament. The loss on the day moves Weber State's record to 4-14 on the season and 2-6 in the Big Sky.

The Lumberjacks started the match off strong as the team won the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.  The No. 2 pair of Chris Steele and Tom Fisher were able to win their match first as they took down Michiel Van Schoor and Cezary Walkusz by a score of 6-3.  Following the Fisher and Steele win, NAU's No.1 doubles tandem of Tim Handel and Ruben Montano won their match over WSU's Bo-han Li and Junhao Ye by a score of 6-4.

The 'Jacks were able to take increase their lead to 2-0 after Facundo Tumosa won the No. 4 singles over Paul Ohde by a score of 6-7, 6-1 and 6-3.

After losing one point in the No. 3 singles, the Lumberjacks were able to get back on track and win the next four matches.  The streak started with Handel, who won the No.1 singles match 6-2, 2-6 and 6-2. This win gives the senior his 16th of the season, which both leads NAU and the conference.

With the 'Jacks up 3-1, Lucas Taylor sealed the 11th straight win for Northern Arizona when he took down Van Schoor by a score of 6-4 and 7-6.

With the win in hand, NAU finished the match winning the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches.  Montano won the No. 5 match over Walkusz, while Fisher won the No. 6 match over Ye.
