Roe Snags Another Conference Award After Being Named Female Freshman of the Year

Matilde Roe Named Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year

BIG SKY PRESS RELEASE

ODGEN, Utah (May 14, 2019) -
As if Matilde Roe had not had to travel home from Missoula with enough awards after winning three silver medals at the 2019 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships, the freshman thrower will be receiving one more piece of hardware for her memorable performances this past weekend.

Roe has been named the 2019 Big Sky Track & Field Female Freshman of the Year by the conference. She was also named the Most Valuable Female Athlete at the conclusion of the meet on Saturday.

The Bergen, Norway native was the silver medalist in the Women's Shot Put (14.69m), Discus (48.11m) and Javelin (46.65m), earning a total of 24 points towards the Northern Arizona women's team score of 65.

"It feels great for all of this hard work to pay off," Roe said.

Roe has quickly established herself as the conferences most versatile and skilled female thrower just a single season after the departure of NAU's most decorated and accomplished thrower in program history, Brooke Anderson.

During the 2018 cross country season Jesselyn Bries was named Female Freshman of the Year as well making this the second time a Lumberjack will be receiving this award.

The Lumberjacks will return for the 2019 NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento, Calif., on May 23rd. Qualifiers will be announced within the week.
