USTFCCCA PRESS RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS, La. (May 6, 2019) - The Northern Arizona University men's outdoor track & field program is ranked no. 12 overall in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index for week six.
This is the highest the Lumberjack men have ever been ranked in the USTFCCCA national poll. NAU moved up nine spots from rank no. 21 to no. 12 after three NAU distance runners (
Tyler Day - 13:25.06,
Geordie Beamish - 13:31.58,
Luis Grijalva - 13:37.11) set new personal records in the Men's 5000m Run at the Payton Jordan Invitational this past weekend. Day's performance ended up earning him the top time in NCAA Division I in that event as of May 6th. Day was already ranked No. 1 in the TFRI Individual Rankings in the 10,000 from his 28:04.44 at the Payton Jordan Invitational last year.
The 'Jacks were the only men's Big Sky Conference program to be featured in the ranking. Heading into Big Sky outdoor championships in Missoula this weekend NAU is shaping up to have a target on their back as the most nationally prominent men's team in the conference.
