Tyler Day Earns All-American Status in 10k for Second Straight Season

AUSTIN, Texas (June 5, 2019) - Northern Arizona University long distance runner Tyler Day earned First Team All-American status in the Men's 10k on Wednesday evening at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Austin. 

The junior placed sixth out of 24 of the country's top male distance runners in the 10k with a time of 29:25.35. The top eight finishers distinguished themselves as First Team All-Americans, with this being Day's second time earning that honor at outdoors. 

Day would be the first junior in the event to finish. This is the sixth time that Day has been named an NCAA Division I First Team All-American in outdoor, indoor and cross country combined. He has earned three in cross country, two in outdoors and one in indoors. 

The race began with a slower pace and saw the field picking up speed in the latter half of the 10k. Day didn't let it phase him as he stayed patient in making his moves, especially during the last two laps of the race.

"Getting sixth is a big deal," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Michael Smith. "Getting First Team All-American is always hard. His consistency this year has been very good. It was a tough race and he was in it."

While Day may be ending his 2019 outdoor campaign, the Lumberjack faithful can rest easy knowing that the Arizona native will be back next season for the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Northern Arizona still has three men's distance runners who have yet to compete at the 2019 Outdoor Championships. The trio of Geordie Beamish, Luis Grijalva and true freshman Brodey Hasty will take on the 5k on Friday night at approximately 9:25 P.M. (CT).
