FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (August 14, 2019) – Northern Arizona University Swimming and Diving has announced their 2019-20 schedule, having high hopes to earn their seventh straight Western Athletic Conference Championship title.
NAU will dive head first into the season with its 24th annual Pentathlon, an intrasquad swimming-only meet, on Sept. 20 starting at 2:00 p.m. Following soon after, the Blue and Gold meet will occur Oct. 4, also at 2:00 p.m. The Pentathlon and Blue and Gold meet, along with all home meets at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex, are free for fans, guests and family to attend and cheer on their favorite swimmers and divers.
The Lumberjacks will travel to compete against Colorado teams on Oct. 18-19. On the 18th, they will face Northern Colorado for a conference meet at 4 p.m. in Greeley, Colo. The 19th will be a double-dual meet, hosted by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 'Jacks will face both the Air Force Falcons and the Colorado State Rams.
NAU will return to the pool on Nov. 1, with both the swimmers and divers facing New Mexico at 4 p.m. Just eight days later, the Lumberjacks will compete at home against Idaho at 11 a.m.
Northern Arizona will return after winter break to the University of Arizona in Tucson after taking a hiatus from competition last year. At Arizona, there will be a tri-dual meet against Arizona, Northwestern, and New Mexico State University on Jan. 2-3.
For the first time, NAU Swimming will travel to St. George, Utah to swim against Dixie State on Jan. 18. During the same time, the Diving team will be traveling to Los Angeles to participate in a three-day diving Invite at UCLA.
The Western Athletic Conference Championship, from Feb. 26-29, will be hosted by Houston again for the fifth year in a row. Last year, NAU won its sixth straight championship at the WAC with a final score of 772.5 with the closest opponent totaling only 582 points.
For the first time in five years, the Zone E Diving Championship will be held in Federal Way, Wash. rather than at home in the Wall Aquatic Center. Last season, four divers represented Northern Arizona in the air. Two divers who dove in the preliminary rounds last year return this year in
Emily Sharrer and
Jenny Cheetham.
Wrapping up the season, the team looks toward attending the NCAA Championships held in Athens, Ga. On March 18-21.
