Men’s Tennis Announces Signing of Sebastian Mermersky

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Aug. 4, 2019) – Northern Arizona Men's Tennis head coach Maciej Bogusz and team officially signed Sebastian Mermersky.

Mermersky comes from Washington, D.C. with multiple championships under his belt as a junior tennis player with an ITF world ranking of 220. He started as a full time tennis academy student at Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC), in College Park, Maryland from 2012-2014 followed by Centercourt, in Morristown, New Jersey from 2014-2015. Mermersky will be transferring from Liberty University, where he played for one semester during the fall of 2017. 

From 2012-2016, Mermersky was in both the Top 10 National player ranking and a Blue Chip recipient. He ranked first in every age group (10, 12, 14, 16 and 18) and at 15 he was the mid-Atlantic sectional champion in both the 16 and 18 age groups. Nationally, he made the semifinals of the USTA Winter Championship twice – once in the 14s and once in the 16s age group – and has a gold ball and two bronze balls in doubles from finishing in third in the 12, 14 and 16 age group. Mermersky has played in 9 finals with a total of 7 titles on all surfaces, with 6 in doubles and 1 in singles. 

The Lumberjacks are coming off a record-breaking season with 22 match wins on the season, with a 19 match winning streak. After being undefeated in conference games, they won the Big Sky Conference Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. They ranked 6 as a team in regional rankings, had doubles team ranked as high as number 25 in the nation, and 71 in the nation in singles. The team was also awarded Big Sky Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year.
