FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 20, 2019) – The Northern Arizona University men's tennis team had a successful first day at the Wildcat Invitational today. The team played against Arizona, Brigham Young University, New Mexico State University, Grand Canyon University, the University of Northern Colorado, New Mexico and San Diego State University.
In NAU's double matches, they won two out of their three matches.
Chris Steele and Alex Groves won in their doubles match playing against SDSU.
David Nguyen and
Mikael Purne won in a match playing against Kirsch from GCU and Exstead from University of Northern Colorado.
Eban Straker-Mead and
Facundo Tumosa were the only ones to fall in the doubles match in a close game of 7-6. However, Straker-Mead won in both of his singles matches, advancing to the semi-finals tomorrow.
Steele, Groves and Tumosa all lost their first matches, but recovered and got the win in their second ones. Purne won in his only singles match.
Dillon Tripp lost his only singles game in three sets. Nguyen lost in both of his singles matches.
The 'Jacks will continue with day two at the Wildcat Invitational with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.
