FULL 2020 SCHEDULE
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 13, 2020) – The Northern Arizona football team announced their 2020 schedule on Monday highlighted by five home games in the Walkup Skydome this upcoming fall.
"We're excited to open the season with Arizona State and to host another team from the Missouri Valley Football Conference in our home opener," said head coach
Chris Ball. "The 2020 season provides us a great opportunity to build upon the foundations set in our first year. We're looking forward to seeing our fans in full support in the Skydome for 2020 Lumberjack Football."
The 2020 season will open on a Thursday night with the Lumberjacks in Tempe against Pac-12 foe Arizona State on Sept. 3. The 'Jacks and Sun Devils will square off for the first time at Sun Devil Stadium since 2016. Arizona State won its final three games of the 2019 season, including a 20-14 victory over Florida State in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, to conclude the recently completed campaign with an 8-5 record.
NAU's 11-game slate will continue the following week with its home opener versus South Dakota on Sept. 12 in the Walkup Skydome. The Coyotes, out of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, is coming off a 5-7 season. NAU's home opener will be the first meeting between the teams since 2014, when the Coyotes edged the 'Jacks, 28-21, in Vermillion, S.D. NAU knocked off South Dakota the year prior in the Skydome by a 22-16 score in the only other previous matchup.
NAU will play its final non-conference game, albeit against a Big Sky opponent, on Sept. 19 when the Lumberjacks travel to Eastern Washington for the second game in a home-and-home non-conference series. The two teams played their first non-conference game in 2018 – a 31-26 Eastern Washington win – in the Skydome. It will also mark the second consecutive year that NAU visits Eastern Washington.
After traveling to Cheney, the Lumberjacks will kick off conference at Northern Colorado on Sept. 26 in the first of two back-to-back road trips in 2020. NAU will return home on Oct. 3 versus Idaho State in the annual Family Weekend game.
Following a bye week, NAU will host Southern Utah on Oct. 17 with hopes of recapturing the Grand Canyon Trophy. The Lumberjacks will then head out for consecutive road games at Sacramento State and Idaho on Oct. 24 and 31 respectively. Due to the California wildfires cancelling NAU's last visit to Sacramento in 2018, the Lumberjacks will be playing their first game at the Hornets' home since 2013. Meanwhile, NAU has not played at Idaho since 1994.
After consecutive road games, the Lumberjacks will play two straight at home. They will first welcome UC Davis to the Skydome for Homecoming on Nov. 7 ahead of Senior Day on Nov. 14 versus Montana.
The Lumberjacks will conclude the 2020 regular season on Nov. 21 with a trip to Cal Poly.
