NAU Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Season at Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Jan. 17, 2020) – Coming off of the long holiday break, Northern Arizona men's tennis will travel down to the University of Arizona to kick off the first match of the 2020 spring season.

Arizona grabbed its first two wins in a double header with the University of Hawai'i, going 4-1 and 6-1. Arizona clinched its first doubles point in the first match, where the Wildcats continued to win on all three courts. In the second match, Hawaii took the doubles point, but Arizona fought to win on all six singles courts to earn their second win of the day.

As they head south, the Lumberjacks are looking to defend their 2019 Big Sky Championship. NAU was ranked first in the coaches' poll released on Jan. 8 by the Big Sky, receiving a total of 96 points and seven first-place votes. With five returners under their belt, the 'Jacks keep their Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Tumosa. In addition, Tumosa was named to the All-Conference Second Team in singles and an honorable mention in doubles. The four others, Daniel Dillon, David Nguyen, Mikael Purne and Chris Steele, who earned a spot on the Second Team for Doubles last season, also will be competing on the courts for Northern Arizona.

The match begins at 2 p.m. in the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center.
