FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 2, 2020) – Following an entire month away from home in Flagstaff, the Lumberjacks are back in the familiar confines of 7,000 feet on Saturday with their first game in the Walkup Skydome this season. NAU hosts Weber State at 4 p.m. MST in its conference home opener looking to snap a three-game losing streak and pick up its first Big Sky victory.
Saturday's meeting with the Wildcats will be streamed on Pluto TV Channel 539 and can be heard on the Lumberjack Radio Network with the Voice of the Lumberjacks
Mitch Strohman on the call.
After going winless in the Skydome during the 2017-18 season, NAU posted a 5-7 mark in the Dome last season. Over the last eight seasons, the Lumberjacks are 46-51 inside the Skydome.
The 'Jacks hope a return to Flagstaff – where they haven't played since they hosted UC Davis on Dec. 4 – will be the cure for a three-game losing streak that has dropped NAU's record to 6-5 this season. NAU's last three losses, including its first two Big Sky games last week at Montana and Montana State, have been by a combined 11 points including a pair of two-point defeats.
Sophomore
Cameron Shelton and junior
Cameron Satterwhite averaged double-figures during the Lumberjacks' first two conference games. Shelton led the team with 12.0 points per game last week and continues to pace the 'Jacks for the season at 14.0. Meanwhile, Satterwhite increased his season average to 7.5 points per game after scoring in double-figures in both of his first two starts of the season on NAU's recent road trip.
In Monday's narrow loss to Montana State, junior
Bernie Andre returned to form with season-high tying 17 points off the bench. Andre, who is fifth on the team in scoring at 8.0 per game, had gone five games without reaching double-figures in the scoring column.
The stop at home will be brief for NAU as its conference slate features just two home games in the first seven contests prior to the Lumberjacks' four-game homestand beginning at the end of the month.
NAU and Weber State will meet for the 110th time on Saturday. Weber State swept the series last season with a 77-52 victory in Ogden and an 86-71 win in Flagstaff to extend the Wildcats' head-to-head winning streak to seven games.
Weber State leads the all-time series 80-29. Although the series has been dominated by the Wildcats historically, the Lumberjacks have found moderate success versus Weber State at home where they are 19-32 despite dropping the last 10 meetings in Flagstaff.
Still, since NAU swept the season series during the 2007-08 season, the Lumberjacks are just 2-20 versus the Wildcats over the last 11 years with their last victory coming on Feb. 14, 2015 by a 61-54 score.
