Men’s Tennis Nguyen Defeats No. 15 ASU in Singles, 1-6

TEMPE, Ariz. (February 1, 2020) – Men's Tennis' David Nguyen came out on top in a three-set singles match over ASU, allowing Northern Arizona to finish 1-6 against the Sun Devils.

"I was very pleased with the way we responded in singles matches after being flat in doubles," head coach Maciej Bogusz said. "Special congratulations to David who played the best match since I have been the coach of this team."
 
Nguyen's match finished last out of the six. In the first set, the game went 6-3 in favor of NAU. ASU came back in the second, with a 2-6 tally. The final set, Nguyen gained the advantage, winning 7-6, and a final tiebreaker score of 11-9.
 
On all the other singles courts, the 'Jacks fell to ASU. Alex Groves was close in both of his sets, going 4-6 and 5-7. Daniel Dillon also went 4-6 in his first set but slipped to 2-6 in the second. Similarly, Facundo Tumosa finished 3-6 and 4-6.
 
Duo Chris Steele and Groves fought on their double courts, finishing 3-6. Eban Straker-Meads and Tumosa played against the No. 27 doubles pairing of Tim Ruehl and Andrea Bolla, finishing first, 0-6. Schaefer and Dillon found the same score of 0-6 on their court. 

The 'Jacks will head to UNLV for their next match this Friday, Feb. 7. On Sunday, NAU will be back at the Aquatic and Tennis Center for a double header match against Western New Mexico at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
