NAU Men’s Tennis Begins Road Swing at Cajun Invite

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 12, 2020) – Beginning a six game away swing, Northern Arizona men's tennis will travel to Lafayette, L.A. for the two-day Cajun Invite, hosted by Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns.

Most recently, the Lumberjacks competed in a double header against Western New Mexico University at home, taking 7-0 wins in both matches to advance their season record to 4-3. With the two wins, Northern Arizona looks to continue building up their positive streak.

Louisiana heads into the invite with an 8-2 overall record, taking wins over Rice, Florida A&M and the other contender in the invite: Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. Friday marks as the second meeting for the 'Jacks and the Cajuns, with Louisiana achieving the first victory, 4-0. In last year's contest, Chris Steele had a comeback in his singles matches after falling 6-2, going 7-6 to a ten-point tiebreaker. Unfortunately, Steele's match went unfinished due to the Ragin Cajuns clinching the match. The 'Jacks will kick off the match at 4 p.m.

The 'Jacks will face the Islanders for the second time as well. Last season, the Islanders clinched a 4-3 win over NAU, despite the Lumberjacks taking the crucial doubles point, and two singles wins, one by Steele of 6-3 and 7-5. The match against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Saturday begins at 9 a.m, with AMCC taking a 9-2 record into the weekend.
