NAU Men’s Tennis to Beehive State For a Pair of Games

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 26, 2020) – After taking on their first Big Sky Conference opponent last weekend, Northern Arizona's men's tennis is taking a break from conference play, challenging Utah State on Friday, followed by the University of Utah Saturday.

The match against the Aggies begins at 10 a.m. in Logan, Utah. The Lumberjacks have taken on USU four times, the most recent being in 2015, where the 'Jacks fell 1-6. However, in the four matches they've played, the score is even of 2-2. This weekend, Utah State enters 2-5, taking wins over both Louisiana (4-3) and GCU (4-3). Similarly, NAU (4-6) comes in with a 5-2 win over the 'Lopes, one of the first wins the 'Jacks had on the season.

The Utes lead the Lumberjacks for wins in match history, 8-1. NAU's single win came in 2003, with a tight clinching match of 4-3. This season, Utah has played against six other Big Sky opponents, taking a win over each to build their overall record to 10-4.

Last week, Northern Arizona didn't find much luck in their first Big Sky match, dropping its conference opener to Portland State. Despite the result, the Lumberjacks won on one doubles court and three singles, but just couldn't come up with the win, ending the day in a 3-4.
