NEW ORLEANS, La. (February 6, 2020) – Northern Arizona senior distance runner
Tyler Day was added to the Men's Watch List for The Bowerman in the first update by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) since the preseason on Thursday.
Day makes his career debut on The Bowerman Watch List and is the third Lumberjack male joining David McNeill (2010) and Diego Estrada (2013) on the watch list.
The Bowerman debuted in 2009 and is named after former Oregon coach Bill Bowerman. It is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation.
Day's inclusion on the watch list comes after he broke the American collegiate record in the men's 5000m run at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 24. Day's time of 13:16.95 is the fastest in the country this indoor season, which all but guarantees him a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
Day is just the third man in collegiate history to go sub-13:17.00 in the indoor 5K joining Lawi Lalang (13:08.28) and Stephen Sambu (13:13.74), both of whom recorded their times eight years ago.
The next Men's Watch List for The Bowerman comes out on March 5. The Bowerman will be handed out on Dec. 17.
