LAS VEGAS, Nev. (February 7, 2020) – Northern Arizona's men's tennis fell to UNLV, letting the Rebels clinch the match 4-0.
"The guys put up a great fight today," head coach
Maciej Bogusz said.
In the doubles matches, the duo of
Joachim Schaefer and
Daniel Dillon finished first, giving the advantage to UNLV for the doubles point, 2-6. To take it,
Chris Steele and
Alex Groves lost in their match, 3-6. On the unfinished court,
Eban Straker-Meads and
Facundo Tumosa put up a back and forth fight, but unfortunately didn't finish, ending the court 5-5.
UNLV took the next three points on the single courts, finishing first against Steele. Steele went 2-6 and 0-6 in his match against UNLV's Jordan Sauer. Tumosa completed his match after, taking a 4-6 loss in both games. As the final clinching match for UNLV, Groves put up a 5-7 loss in the first set and a 4-6 one in the second.
The last three courts weren't finished, but still had close scores. Straker-Meads went into three games of 5-7, taking the win 6-4 in the second, and 1-3 last.
David Nguyen also was not able to complete his court, falling 3-6 in the first and 5-6 second. Schaefer went 5-7 and 6-6, unfinished.
The 'Jacks are back at home on Sunday for a double header against Western New Mexico. The first match will be at 9 a.m. with the second at 2 p.m. Before the afternoon match, there will be free pizza for fans while supplies last, as well as a ping pong table set up in the foyer to play.
This will be the 'Jacks last competition at home before a six game away stretch.
