FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (July 1, 2020) – Two years into her Lumberjack career, Northern Arizona women's basketball guard
Regan Schenck will enter her junior season this coming fall.
Having played in 61 of NAU's 62 games across the past two seasons, Schenck is on pace to land in the top 10 of the program's all-time games played list. As a sophomore, Schenck averaged 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 34.6% from the field. In what ended up being the season finale against Montana State, Schenck scored 10 points while hitting 4-of-6 shots from the field.
Q: Where were you before returning to Flagstaff and what did a normal day look like for you?
A: I live in Woodinville, Wash. and a normal day for me started off by waking up and working out, then I went to work. After work, I'd come home and do about an hour-long basketball workout. I'd be done around 7 p.m. and then just chill the rest of the day.
Q: What are you most looking forward to when you get back competing on the court?
A: Once we are able to get back on the court, I'm so excited to be able to compete in live five-on-five scrimmages. With quarantining, it's been hard to find people to play against live.
Q: What is motivating or encouraging you to push through these difficult times?
A: Honestly, regarding school and sports, I'm looking at quarantine as a chance to grow. With all this time that we are given at home, it gives me the opportunity to choose how I want to grow as a basketball player. It gives me extra time in my day to be able to really focus on my growth and development and crafting my game.
Q: How did you first get into your sport?
A: I got into basketball around the age 4 or 5, since the time you had to wear sweat bands on your wrist to know who you were guarding during a game. Ever since then I've just loved and gradually made it a part of my everyday life.
Q: If you could be a dual-sport athlete at NAU, what sport would you compete in and why?
A: If I was a dual-sport athlete, my second sport to pick would be soccer. I'd choose soccer because growing up I played soccer since I was about 4 or 5 years old. I loved soccer with a passion and miss it a lot to this day.
Q: What is your best basketball memory ever?
A: My best memory ever was in 7th grade during my Woodinville select basketball game. We only had five kids show up on our team to play a full game. It ended up being a close game at the very end. With three seconds left in the game down two, I got the ball and took one dribble past half court and launched the ball. It went in and we won by one!
Q: What is your major and what are your career aspirations?
A: I'm majoring in marketing. I honestly have no idea as to the career I want in the future, but I hope as I get further along in school I can really pinpoint on what I want to do for the rest of my life.
