Lumberjack Flashback: NAU Men's Basketball Electrifies the Skydome During 2015 CIT Run

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (August 20, 2020) – Over the course of two nights, the Northern Arizona men's basketball team was the biggest show in Flagstaff during the Lumberjacks' run to the CIT championship game in 2015. The 'Jacks posted comeback wins over both Kent State and NJIT in the tournament quarterfinals and semifinals in the Walkup Skydome with both games ending with a court-storming by the Blue & Gold faithful.

After 3,653 fans witnessed the Lumberjacks stun Kent State in a 74-73 overtime thriller on March 27, 2015, a sellout crowd of 5,583 poured onto the court once more following NAU's 68-61 victory over NJIT four nights later. Although the 'Jacks ultimately fell short in the championship game to Evansville on the road, the pair of home victories were the final two in a school-record 23 win campaign led by the Big Sky's Defensive Player of the Year Jordyn Martin and All-Big Sky First Team performer Kris Yanku.

Martin and Yanku were two of four all-conference honorees in 2015. In this week's Lumberjack Flashback, they are joined by Quinton Upshur, Gaellan Bewernick and Ako Kaluna to recount NAU men's basketball's CIT run. Lumberjack Flashback is a video series highlighting NAU Athletics' top moments and individual performances from the last decade.
