Lumberjack Flashback: Brooke Andersen Shatters NAU and Big Sky Hammer Throw Records

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 4, 2020) – With one swift toss, Northern Arizona track & field's Brooke Andersen inserted her name into the NCAA record book on April 28, 2018. Competing at the Desert Heat Classic hosted by Arizona in her final outdoor meet before the Big Sky Championships, Andersen launched a throw of 74.20m, which not only shattered her own school and conference records, but registered as the second-best mark in NCAA history.

Andersen's mark of 74.20m in Tucson that day was also the third-best in the world, at the time, during the 2018 calendar year and was sixth-best in United States track & field history. Andersen would proceed to win the gold medal at the 2018 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships and place second at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in her final showing as a Lumberjack. She finished her career as a four-time All-American and two-time national runner-up in the outdoor hammer throw.

Since graduating from NAU, Andersen has embarked on a professional career that has taken her, among many stops, to the 2019 Pan American Games where she placed second for Team USA. She checks in for this week's Lumberjack Flashback, NAU Athletics' video series highlighting top moments and individual performances from the last decade.
