FARMINGTON, Utah (October 28, 2021) – For the second consecutive year, Northern Arizona forward
Khiarica Rasheed earned Preseason All-Conference honors from the Big Sky.
Voted on by the conference's head coaches, sports information directors and select media members, the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team honored six women ahead of the 2021-22 season. Idaho's Beyonce Bea was named the Preseason MVP, with Montana State's Darian White, Montana's Carmen Gfeller, and Dora Goles and Diaba Konate of Idaho State rounding out the team.
Rasheed averaged 13.3 points while hitting 48.1% from the field across 22 games last season. Despite missing a handful of games due to injury, Rasheed still finished among the top 10 in rebounds with 153 for a total of 7.0 per game. Earning All-Big Sky Third Team, Rasheed capped off the year with double-doubles in all three of Northern Arizona's games at the 2021 Women's Basketball Invitational. Rasheed was also named to the All-Tournament team at the WBI, where she opened the tournament with 29 points and 14 rebounds in the opening game against FIU.
Entering her final season with the Lumberjacks, Rasheed's name is spread throughout the program's record book. Currently fourth in both points and rebounds, Rasheed is 515 and 101 away from the program records respectively.
While points and rebounds may be the most prominent categories Rasheed is still climbing up, she also ranks among the program's all-time top 10 in field goals made, field goals attempted, free throws made and free throws attempted. Finally, Rasheed ranks eighth in games and enters the season just 10 away from setting a new program record. A four-time Big Sky All-Academic selection, Rasheed extended her career for a fifth and final season due to the NCAA's decision to grant all players an additional year of eligibility in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
No other player in NAU history has been a member of the Big Sky's Preseason All-Conference team dating back to its introduction in 2015. Coming off of her junior season when she averaged 16.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, Rasheed was voted Big Sky Conference Preseason MVP ahead of the 2020-21 season.
