FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (November 19, 2021) - Northern Arizona Diving excelled in the first day of the Lumberjack Diving Invite, starting off with the 3-meter dives.
The morning session began with 3m preliminaries, where NAU's very own Maegan Jensen, Emily Luberto, and Victoria Knapp placed the top three spots with scores of 305.55, 286.05, and 280.95, respectively.
Just missing the finals by one point, Kendall Marquez headed into the consolations, where she placed second with a score of 259.70 in her very first Lumberjack Diving Invite.
In the 3m finals, the Lumberjacks placed top four with Jensen taking first with a score of 296.85, followed by Luberto in second with a score of 293.00, UC Davis' Taylor Hornberger in third at 289.75, and Knapp in fourth at 287.65.
"Emily was so much better today than last weekend, with two zone qualifying score, Maegan got her first win of the season and that was awesome, Victoria wasn't necessarily happy with her performance but she still got qualifying scores and is always in the mix. Kendall was great today, she keeps getting more and more consistent as a freshman so I'm excited for her," Head Diving Coach Nikki Kelsey said.
"I think tomorrow we will have all eight divers on 1-meter which will be nice. Today we only had five so it will be exciting to see where we are there and even just to see what adjustments we make," Kelsey said.
The Lumberjack Diving Invite will continue tomorrow at the Wall Aquatic Center, where they will host 1m and platform diving. The 1m prelims will begin at 10:30 a.m. MST, followed by 1m consols and 1m finals. The platforms will begin approximately at 3:15 p.m. MST.
