FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (December 20, 2021) - Head Coach Andy Johns and Head Diving Coach Nikki Kelsey, along with the entire NAU swimming and diving staff, are excited to announce the swimming and diving class of 2022.
The Lumberjacks are welcoming ten new athletes that will join the team ahead of the 2022-23 season. The incoming athletes include seven swimmers and three divers. Seven of the ten signees are Arizona natives, two of whom reside in Flagstaff already. The other three signees come from Montana, North Dakota and Texas.
"We are really excited for this years signing class, they are going to be a great fit into the program here," Head Coach Andy Johns said.
2022 Signing Class
Samantha Sheridan
Billings, Montana / Billings West High
Distance/Free
Samantha Sheridan is coming to Flagstaff to join the Swimming and Diving team from Billings, Montana. She is a four year letter-winner from Billings West High, where she's served as captain for one year. She has earned herself MVP for her high school team, as well as 'Hardest Worker' under her club team. She holds team records in the 1650 Freestyle, 1500 M Freestyle, 800 M Freestyle, and the 400 M Freestyle. Sheridan also holds state records in Montana in the 1500 M free and the 800 M free. She was drawn to NAU for the campus, academic programs and of course the swim program.
Sarah Dorrheim
Bismarck, North Dakota / Century High School
Sprint/Mid-Distance Free
Sarah Dorrheim will join the team in Flagstaff, making the journey from Bismarck, North Dakota. Dorrheim is a four year letter-winner for Century High School, where she has served as captain for one year. Her career high time in the 200 free is 1:53.49, in the 100 free it is 51.75, and in the 50 free it is 23.98. She was All-State Conference 2nd team from 2017-2019, All State-Conference 1st team in 2020, the 2020 200 Freestyle State champion, and WDA All-Conference from 2017-2020. She is most excited for the beautiful scenery of Flagstaff and NAU, and to work with Coach Andy and Larry to reach her goals and full potential.
Gracie Munk
Phoenix, Arizona / Xavier College Prep
Fly/Back
Gracie Munk will head North to join the team in Flagstaff from Phoenix, Arizona. Munk's parents Gina and Kevin Munk are both alumni of NAU. Munk attends Xavier College Prep, and is a four year letter-winner in swimming. She is also an athlete for Phoenix Swim Club, where she's qualified for futures and compete for nine years. Munk earned Most Valuable Swimmer in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. She's earned a 2021 Scholastic All-American time in the 100 fly (55.36), as well as a consideration time in the 100 back (55.90). Along with her parents being alumni, Munk chose NAU for the amazing pool and the high performance center that will open in the Spring.
Remi Wallace
Mesa, Arizona / Red Mountain High School
Fly/Free
Remi Wallace will be traveling up the mountain from Mesa, Arizona to join the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff. Wallace attends Red Mountain High School, where she is a four year letter-winner and has served as captain for her team for one year. Wallace is second in the state in the 100 yard butterfly event, as well as first in the state for girls 200 yard freestyle relay. Remi earned the coaches award in 2019, and the team MVP in in 2020. Wallace chose NAU for how close to home it is, and for how excited she is to get to know the coaches and the girls, as well as the team environment.
Mackenna Stocker
Phoenix, Arizona / Chaparral High School
Diving
Mackenna Stocker will be joining the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff from Phoenix, Arizona. Stocker is a four year letter-winner for her high school, Chaparral. Stocker is a USA National semi-finalist, AAU National Finalist, and State Champion in Division I High School Diving. Stocker is also a three time SUSD diver of the year, and Chaparral high Diver of the year. Stocker has a 4.25 GPA, and is a member of the National Honors Society, she is interested in studying international business at NAU.
Elsa Musselman
San Antonio, Texas / Johnson High School
Free/Fly
Elsa Musselman will join the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff, making the trip all the way from San Antonio, Texas. Musselman earned MVP three consecutive season, State Champion in 9th and 10th grade, All-American in 9th grade, and 1st and 2nd All-State team accolades. Musselman broke the records for her club team in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, as well as her high school record in the 200 free relay. Her high school team placed second in the state in 2021. Musselman won the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 free at Central Zones as well. She chose NAU for the excellent coaches, beautiful facilities, and welcoming team.
Cydnie Perkins
Scottsdale, Arizona / Chaparral High School
Breaststroke
Cydnie Perkins will move up North from Scottsdale, Arizona to join the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff. Cydnie's parents Brent and Britania both attended NAU, where her mother played for NAU Women's Basketball. Perkins has been swimming with her club team for ten years, and four years with her high school. She was named a scholastic all-American her freshman year. She also won the 200 IM relay in the state meet her senior season. Cydnie chose NAU for the coaching staff, facilities, team atmosphere, and the beautiful campus.
Nicole Kepl
Sun City, Arizona / Liberty High School
Freestyle
Nicole Kepl will make her way up the mountain to join the team in Flagstaff, coming from Sun City, Arizona. Nicole is a four year letter-winner and a one year captain for Liberty High School. She was named the 2019-2020 District Girls Swimmer of the Year, and also earned the Liberty Buick Leadership Award two years in a row. She placed second in the 50 free in 2019, third in the 50 free in 2020, fifth in the 100 free in 2020, and third in the 50 free in 2021 in the high school state swimming championships. Her records in the 50 free are 23.71, and in the 100 free is 52.95. Kepl chose NAU for being close to home while still feeling out of state, and she fell in love with the pool and the coaches/teammates.
Maggie Wesche
Flagstaff, Arizona / Flagstaff High School
Diving
Maggie Wesche won't be traveling far as a Flagstaff native, she will be joining the team alongside her twin sister Grace for the 2022-23 season. Maggie was a gymnast for eight years before becoming a diver, where she started at Flagstaff High school and continued into club diving. Maggie placed 3rd at state in 2020 for diving, and she has been an academic letter-winner each year of her high school career. She chose NAU for how close it is to her family, and she is excited to get started working with Coach Nikki Kelsey and the rest of the team.
Grace Wesche
Flagstaff, Arizona / Flagstaff High School
Diving
Grace Wesche will be joining the Lumberjacks at NAU for the 2022-23 season, not having to move far as she is a Flagstaff native, alongside her twin sister Maggie. Grace is a four year academic letter-winner, and has been a diver at Flagstaff High school since her sophomore year. Before becoming a diver, Grace was a gymnast for eight years competitively. In the 2020 state diving championships, Grace placed ninth. Grace can't wait to become a part of the swimming and diving team at NAU, and she looks forward to being close to home and learning from Coach Nikki Kelsey.
