Las Vegas, Nev. (February 13, 2021) – The first outdoor meet of the season was a success for the Northern Arizona University track & field teams as the Lumberjacks posted many strong performances on Saturday at the UNLV Winter Challenge.
In a quadrangular matchup between NAU, UNLV, Utah, and Utah Valley, the 'Jacks scored 11 first-place finishes between the men's and women's teams, with nine of those wins by the Lumberjack men.
Freshman
David Dunlap achieved two of those first-place finishes on Saturday; one in the men's 60-meter (7.03) and one in the men's 200m (22.10). Senior
Ryan Lanley shared in a similar accomplishment as well, placing first in the men's 1500m (4:11.19) and the men's 400m (49.53).
Between the two squads, the NAU men and women swept the 400m race, with junior
Melanie Loff also taking first-place for the women with a new personal best of 56.60.

Jake Arnold and junior
Matilde Roe both topped the shot put leaderboards, with marks of 17.04m and 13.90m respectively, to sweep the event.
The throws unit showed out in Las Vegas; not only did they crush the competition, but they broke records as well.
Sophomore Will Beaudry hit a new personal record and placed first in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 59.30m. On the women's side,
Kimberly Buchanan placed second and set a personal best of 54.02m.
Meanwhile, sophomore
CJ McMullen took first in the men's discus with a throw of 48.70m.
The jumps crew joined in on the excitement as well.
Freshman
Mitchell Effing secured a first-place finish in the men's triple jump (14.28m) and
Jack Normand placed first in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.73m.
As for the women, junior
Jenna Figueroa set personal bests in both the triple jump (11.66m), placing second, and the long jump (5.46m), placing fourth.
Unfortunately for the Lumberjacks, the meet ended prematurely, as severe weather conditions in the area caused an early end to the meet.
